Deck Review: Bonestone & Earthflesh Tarot

    December 22, 2025 /

The Bonestone & Earthflesh Tarot is my All-Time Mostest Favouritest deck: rich, myth-soaked, visually stunning, and utterly unforgettable. Created by illustrator Ana Tourian and writer Avalon Cameron, it’s a deck that leans hard into beauty and brutality, ecological grief and ecstatic joy, folklore and flesh. With the long-awaited mass-market Reawakening edition finally making this former indie unicorn accessible, it feels like the perfect moment to revisit what makes Bonestone so powerful and so enduring - and why I still return to it again and again.

    Deck Review: The Sinagtala Tarot

    August 27, 2025 /

The Sinagtala Tarot is a beautiful, ambitious deck that shines a light on Filipino folklore and myth through Augusto Ayo’s richly symbolic artwork. Each card feels like a doorway into a legend - but you’ll need the key of cultural context to step fully through. It’s a stunner to look at: dark, gilded, and full of haunting imagery that reimagines the Major Arcana through diwata, aswang, and babaylan. Still, the journey to get it was epic (hello, fifteen-month Kickstarter delay), and the lack of a basic guidebook makes it trickier for readers unfamiliar with the myths. When it lands, though, it lands hard: a deck of wild gods, changeling babies,…

Deck Review: The Universal Folk Tarot

    May 22, 2024 /

I’ve been waiting for Anita Iverarity‘s Universal Folk Tarot to come out for aaaaaages, and I’m so happy it’s finally here. I’ve always been a big fan of Inverarity’s art style, as evidenced in their gorgeous Universal Folk Oracle, but Oracle decks aren’t really my thing (with a few notable exceptions), so I was so excited to see this beautiful Tarot deck in the works. The art reminds me, stylistically, of the art in one of my favourite books as a kid, In Search Of Unicorns, illustrated by Wendy Hall (I can find out literally nothing about Hall, btw. It’s like she illustrated this one awesome, quirky, darkly odd little…

    Deck Review: Le Tarot Arthurien

    April 16, 2024 /

I’ve been SO excited about the incredibly talented Ana Tourian having not one, but two, stunning looking decks coming out (as well as the touted second edition of the infamous Bonestone Earthflesh Tarot!) I’m happy to say I now have both of them in my collection, and they do not disappoint. Here I’m reviewing the gorgeous Tarot Arthurien* that Tourian illustrated in collaboration with creator Claire Duval – and Tourian’s new solo deck, The Tarot of Echoes, will be coming up for review soon! As you might have guessed, this deck is based on the legend(s) of King Arthur (particularly the works of the French poet Chrétien de Troyes), and…
