    Deck Review: Zoomies Tarot

    December 7, 2025 /

The Zoomies Tarot is whimsical, tender, and often surprisingly profound - very much in keeping with Amber Fossey’s trademark ability to make a “cute” drawing suddenly hit you in the feelings. With her background as an NHS doctor working in psychiatry, Fossey understands the messy grey areas of being human, and that compassion runs through the deck. Her creatures are a little strange, a little scruffy, sometimes falling apart… but always worthy of love.

Deck Review: The Cracked Amethyst Tarot

    November 27, 2025 /

The Cracked Amethyst Tarot feels like both a culmination and a homecoming - a decade of Jessica Bott’s artistic growth distilled into a deck that’s gentle, thoughtful, and quietly wise. Each card hums with intention: landscapes alive with light, natural textures, and a kind of calm that feels both grounded and expansive. Bott’s reimagining of her long-out-of-print Idiosyncradeck is no nostalgia project; it’s a transformation. Like the oyster-Magician at its heart, this is grit turned into grace, art honed into alchemy.

    Deck Review: MindScapes Tarot

    July 22, 2025 /

The MindScapes Tarot is a painterly, deeply introspective deck that invites you inward rather than outward. Born in lockdown and shaped by reflection, it uses dreamlike landscapes to evoke the emotional resonance of Tarot rather than literal scenes. This isn’t a deck of instruction or dogma, but of invitation - a visual language that helps you reconnect with parts of yourself words can’t quite reach.

    Deck Review: The Spacious Tarot

    July 18, 2025 /

The Spacious Tarot, as the name suggests, is a deck about space - not just physical landscapes, but emotional, psychic, and narrative space too. It replaces human figures with wide skies, open paths, and threshold moments at dawn and dusk. The effect is gently meditative rather than empty, celebrating the restorative power of intentional solitude. This is a deck that understands Tarot as process and becoming: always shifting, always open.

    Deck Review: Grounded Wisdom Tarot

    July 12, 2024 /

Another Kickstarter-backed deck that recently arrived with me is the gorgeously detailed Grounded Wisdom Tarot. The deck was designed and drawn by Gabby Morris, who takes a “polymathic approach*” to their projects, blending art and design with nature and ecological futures. (*My little ADHD magpie brain perked up at this inspired phrasing! My new goal is owning my own scattergun approach to knowledge by calling it ‘polymathic’! đź’Ş) Morris’ website is full of really cool stuff from her Master’s project and subsequent work – it’s kinda chemistry-meets-cooking-meets-conservation-meets art & design-meets-am dram, and is well worth checking out. The deck not only has lots of crossovers with my own myriad interests…

    Deck Review: The Gentle Tarot

    May 9, 2024 /

I’m almost done re-writing and uploading my old deck reviews to the blog (two to go after this one!), and it seemed like a really appropriate time to post my review of The Gentle Tarot by Mari In The Sky (the publishing house of creator and artist Mariza Ryce Aparicio-Tovar), as the second edition is shortly about to launch on Kickstarter (pre-launch link here). A quick note to say that the second edition looks fab, and: NO BORDERS! I love borderless cards, so if the deck appeals to you, I’d hold out and order the second edition. I’m sure you could get all sorts of extra goodies too, as the…

Deck Review: The Forager’s Daughter Tarot

    August 22, 2023 /

Having seen it in a few other people’s collections, I initially decided to get the Forager’s Daughter Tarot (Afterlight Edition) because I really liked the concept of it as an artwork (as opposed to thinking I’d necessarily work with it a lot). I was not disappointed – the art in this deck, and the quality of the cards, really is stunning. If you collect Tarot/pretty, clever things then this deck is a really worthwhile addition to your collection. The artist and creator, Jesscia Lei Howard grew up surrounded by nature (a forager’s daughter!), and it is this love for the natural world, and the gifts it gives us, that is…

Deck Review: The Healing Waves Tarot

    July 5, 2023 /

The Healing Waves Tarot is currently out of print after a limited run, and I was after it for aaaaaages before I found a secondhand copy that wasn’t gougingly expensive (it was still pretty pricey though!). It’s definitely worth snapping up if you can find a reasonably priced secondhand copy. Otherwise you can join me in hoping that the creator, Nawan Junhasiri, does a second print run and/or works with a mass market publisher to release a prĂŞt-Ă -tarot version [UPDATE: see postscript at end of post for more info, this sadly seems very unlikely]. Unfortunately the guide book is only available as a passcode locked pdf, and as I bought…

Deck Review: The Mushroom Hunter’s Tarot

    June 19, 2023 /

The Mushroom Hunter’s Tarot is one of the first decks I ever back on Kickstarter, and it got me hooked on the whole process. This is partly due to how the creator, Joe Buckley, managed the whole project. Regular updates, a beautiful Insta, everything on time and seamless, and a really top notch finished project. It was hard to find any flowers to do my customary “new deck photo” as the deck arrived in the middle of the bleak mid-Winter where I am in the UK, but these scrappy little yellow ones were fighting on! I wanted to photograph the deck with some mushrooms (obviously), but every time I found…
