Indie Tarot Deck Reviews
Indie decks are where the Tarot magic really lives. Personal, experimental, often gorgeous, occasionally chaotic – I love them deeply. Whether it’s a lushly illustrated Kickstarter campaign or a hand-cut deck from an obscure Etsy shop, these decks offer something the mass market can’t always capture: intimacy, vision, and risk.
My Indie Picks (So Far)
- Bon Sequitur Tarot
- The Black Tarot (by R Black)
- The Literary Tarot
- The Wyrd of Sarah Howard
- Tarot of The Crystal World
- Divine Channels
Why I Love Indie Decks
Indie creators take risks: non-traditional colour schemes, inclusive imagery, mythic hybrids, dark themes, you name it. They’re often self-published or crowdfunded, and many are labours of love. Some go out of print (OOP), which makes them extra precious. Others quietly become reader favourites. Here you’ll find:
- Small-batch beauty
- Experimental symbolism
- Queer and feminist decks
- The ones you won’t find in your local bookshop (usually)
I always link to where you can buy a deck (if it’s still available), or to the artist’s page if it’s out of print. Because indie creators deserve your love (and your £££).
How I Choose What To Review
I’m not sponsored (unless clearly stated), and all the decks I’ve reviewed so far have been purchased with my own hard-earned cash (I’ll tag clearly if I ever get sent a review copy). The decks here caught my eye for their:
- Artistic merit
- Thoughtful structure
- Striking or novel symbolism
- Representation & diversity
- Weird, witchy, or wonderful vibes
